Claims are emerging that sales of the 8Gb unit are brisk after the £100 price cut. According to an article in Mobile Today sales at Car Phone Warehouse’s and at O2 stores have been brisk with some stores selling out. On a side note, what a dull web site…The quote is “The iPhone’s price was cut by O2 and Carphone Warehouse last week by £100, meaning the 8GB version of the phone was available for £169.
A Mobile Today reports states that O2 stores in Newcastle, Birmingham and London had sold out of the reduced handset and could only offer the £329 16GB version to shoppers.”
O2 should be happy. And in the US AT&T profits rise 22 percent
AT&T Inc. said Tuesday that first-quarter profits rose 22 percent, fueled largely by the addition of 1.3 million net wireless subscribers — a sign that the nation’s largest wireless carrier has thus far escape the adverse affects of a slumping U.S. economy.
Net income rose to $3.46 billion, or 57 cents a share, up from $2.85 billion, or 45 cents a share. Meanwhile, revenue increased 6.1 percent to $30.74 billion from $28.97 billion.
The exclusive U.S. wireless provider for Apple’s iPhone said wireless sales were up 18 percent to $11.8 billion and that it ended the first quarter with a nation-leading 71.4 million mobile customers.
Apple release figures after the markets close tonight.

O2 has sliced the 8Gb iPhone by £100. This is a new deal runs until June 1st. Of course this adds fuel to the 3G in summer rumor fire. This follows a similar plot by T Mobile in Germany. See below.
This makes the 8Gb phone less than the 8Gb Touch, not counting the O2 bill…
Of course no comment from Apple.

Interesting article in a Moscow newspaper about a guy making bling iPhones and selling diamond studded units for Eur 100,000, slightly more than the Eur 399 retail price.
The article goes on to say that Russia has the third largest installed base of iPhones with over 250,000 in use. How they know and the sources are not mentioned. But hey that’s a large number.

German price cut as T-Mobile chop 8GB iPhone price to only 99 Euros
Call them crazy but these Germans must love Spring. T-Mobile announced today a Spring promotion running from April 7th to June 30th and it’s a great deal. So go I may fly there next week… But there is a catch, the Eur 99 deal is only available with a 2 year plan at Eur 89 per month. The low cost plan requires purchasing the 8Gb puppy for Eur 294.The 8Gb unit that used to cost Eur 399 is now only Eur 99. And a new lower cost rate plan, Complete S for only Eru 29 per month. And recent reports showed
Germany to be running low on iPhones. So what is going on?Either
A) They can’t sell them at Eur 399
B) They have a new product to launch soon and need to clear up existing products
C) They want to take market share
All are possible but the world seems to expect a 3G version in the summer time.
