Reports seem to suggest that the 3G unit will have a margin of 50%. A study by iSupply shows a BOM of of $173 as compared to $265 for the first gen device. How they know prior to release is anybodies idea. Component prices are down.

Then there is the carriers subsidy and some estimates are calling this $300. If so then this a high margin little puppy.

Time will tell.

Apple says that iTunes has now sold over 5 billion songs. See yaho news.

In addition, Apple said, iTunes customers are now renting or buying more than 50,000 movies daily.

Apple said that based on data from market researcher NPD Group the iTunes store is the largest music retailer in the U.S. based on the amount of music sold during January and February 2008.

More than 8 million songs are available on iTunes, as well as more than 20,000 TV episodes and more than 2,000 movies.

The news 3G unit will be available July 11th in most of the important countries including the UK. And O2 seem to be saying that if you are a valuable client then you might get a free phone. O2 will launch in the UK and Ireland on the same day. O2 will also distribute the iPhone in a total of 16 countries, 12 in Latin America, UK, Ireland, Czech Republic and of course home team Spain. More news to follow.

WWDC – 3G unit announced – Available July 11.

Big news. Well it’s 3G, S/W version 2 with cool new features including GPS. Launching in 70 countries over the coming months.  And the new price is only $199, half what it used to cost.

This is a big week.
