Now you can visit Apple in Belfast as last Saturday the first Irish shop opened. Take a look at the home video and see the crowd and the store. It looks like a typical mall store with two levels, glass staircase, plenty of demo machines and the wandering cash registers.
Seems that the countries just keep on trucking. Phase 3 of deployment will commence this Friday with 30 new countries, but not the big puppies of China or Korea. The list is shown on the Apple site as coming soon – but we know that locals have received communication from their carries announcing launch parties.
After the recent push by T Mobile in NYC the reports are good but not great. See this link to Reuters - Wins cheers but could be better. It looks to me like a revised side kick and guess what the G1 designer is the one and only Andy Rubin – who knocked up the Sidekick.
Yesterday T-Mobile showed the first Google Android powered phone. It looks a bit like a side-kick with a touch pad.Full specs include QWERTY keyboard, 3 Mb camera, GPS and of course runs Android.Should be in the UK in time for the pre Christmas season. In the US it will sell for $179 and be available on Oct 22 and oh yes it is called the G1,
O2 is now offering the iPhone on a pay n’ go rate and it’s available now from O2, Car Phone Wharehouse and Apple shops.
Early reports say it’s selling well even at 349 pounds for the 16Gb unit.
Seems that sales are continuing at about the 27K/week after the initial burst of 50k /week. A report from Mobile Today claims these numbers. With the Christmas season looming and the O2 pre-paid launching tomorow plus continued marketing sales should remain strong.
No mention of iPhone yesterday apart from a new s/w release out on Friday.
As Jobs said on CNBC today was about music and showed iTunes 8.0 with the latest Genius bar, a tool to tell you what music you will like based on what you have purchased and what’s on your playlists. Sounds clever, can’t wait to try it out.
Then we have a new line of Nanos. New form factor and plenty of colours.
New iPod Touch that looks great – thinner and cooler with a curvier back. Plus more ram for you buck, speaker and better battery life.
Last week another 21 countries joined the existing bunch of lucky folk who can buy an iPhone bringing the total to 43 countries. No I am not going to list them, just recall the 3rd Qtr call where Apple said that Aug 22 would see 20 additional countries, and so it has. If you recall they also promised the total will be 70 by year end.
Sept 16th will see the launch of iPhone with no contract available from O2. Price has been set at a mere £350 for 8 Gb and £400 for the 16 Gb. These are not cheap prices.
You can of course plonk down for an 18 month contract and pay nothing for the phone, just £45 per month. A little maths shows this is a£810 commitment for the 8Gb. The 16 Gb comes out at £1,350 at £75 per month. Maybe the price is not that much after all when compared to other O2 options.
Should be plenty of these puppies in Christmas stockings in a few months time.
